Salisbury Steak
This Salisbury steak recipe is based on one found on All Recipes. We had it with mashed potatoes that we harvested in July and freshly picked sautéed kale (harvested from our fall garden in November).
Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground turkey
- 2 packets dried onion soup mix (divided)
- 2/3 cups dried bread crumbs
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 1/4 cups water
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
- 2 cans of mushrooms, drained
Directions
- Use a large bowl to mix together the ground turkey, 1 packet of dried onion soup mix, bread crumbs, egg, salt and pepper. Once completely mixed, shape it into 8 meatballs, then flatten them.
- In a large skillet on medium-heat, brown both sides of the patties. Remove patties from pan.
- Add olive oil to pan and allow to heat. While whisking, add flour to hot fat. Continue whisking for 2 to 3 minutes until the mixture is dark brown. Slowly add water while still whisking. Once water is fully incorporated, mix in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard powder.
- Reduce heat to low. Return meat to gravy. Add mushrooms. Simmer for 30 minutes.
